Q&A- Startups

A Q&A with Dwight Neptune of Beagle Labs

1-Tell us about yourself / your co-founder(s).

I’m a serial entrepreneur with over a decade of experience in construction, insurance adjusting, AI, and computer vision. Alongside my co-founders Luis Guzman, Keelan Gayle and Josie Madingo, we started Beagle Labs in 2023. Developed from the ground-up, rigorously tested over the last three years, we brought our AI-enhanced property intelligence platform to market this year. Beagle Labs is already employed by several insurance carriers, MGA/MGUs and wholesale brokerages across the U.S. spanning commercial property, and excess and surplus lines.

2-Who are your target customers, and what problem / opportunity do you address for them?

We serve the underwriters of complex commercial property risk with a focus on commercial property and excess and surplus (E&S) lines. Those are exactly the risks that are hardest to assess from a desk and most likely to need a physical inspection before a policy is bound.

Beagle Labs’ platform delivers the ground-truth property and liability data remote modes can’t see. Delivered in real-time instead of weeks or months, we are transforming today’s traditionally slow, inaccurate and expensive physical property inspections with AI-driven analysis of the customized data needed to underwrite property policies faster, accurately and cost effectively.

3-What is your product / solution? Who do you compete with, and what is your USP?

Our AI-enhanced property intelligence platform is for complex commercial insurance underwriting. By turning property risk into real-time, actionable insight, Beagle Labs helps insurers and agents streamline underwriting and price risk accurately, delivering every property signal in one screen. Combining AI-enhanced inspections with on-demand coverage from more than 7K verified Beagle-equipped field inspectors nationwide, we are turning in-field inspection orders around in 14 days or less, correctly, the first time.

4-How do you help scale financial services (e.g. new customers, new products or distribution channels), and how can financial institutions partner with you (perhaps with an example)?

We help carriers, MGAs and MGUs bind more policies, faster. Inspections are one of the biggest bottlenecks between submission and bound policy. We turn them around in 14 days or less, so underwriters can quote more business with the same team and price risk with confidence. Our nationwide network of more than 7K inspectors also lets carriers and MGAs launch new programs or enter new states without building their own inspection capacity.

Partnering with us is simple and usage-based, with no enterprise license. For example, an MGA quoting a 24-building apartment portfolio can order inspections through Beagle Labs and have a complete, AI-verified risk picture in two weeks instead of a month or more.

5-What relevant industry trends or market shifts should we be watching? Any research or resources you can point us to?
We’re entering and tackling a large and growing market. The U.S. surplus lines market alone closed 2025 at a record $143 billion in direct premiums written, according to AM Best, and millions of property inspections are ordered across the U.S. insurance industry every year. Every one of those policies needs accurate property data to be priced correctly, and today most of that data still arrives slowly, manually and with errors.
6-What is your current stage and traction, and how can our network help?

We’re at the pre-seed stage and recently announced a $4.1 million round led by Chingona Ventures. We launched the platform this year after three years of development, and it’s already used by several carriers, MGAs/MGUs and wholesale brokerages across commercial property and E&S lines.

We’d welcome introductions to underwriting leaders at carriers, MGAs/MGUs and wholesale brokerages writing commercial property and E&S business, as well as engineers and insurance talent as we grow the team.

7-What’s on your bookshelf or podcast app? Your favourite place for a coffee or a drink?

Yes, And by Kelly Leonard and Tom Yorton is my favorite book, and nothing on my shelf has topped it yet. For coffee, it’s Noches de Colombia in New Jersey.
